Portugal Cove--St. Philip's (Newfoundland) in 1908. With a historical tradition of having been founded by Portuguese navigators, the settlement was burned by the French in 1696 but endured. Possesses a deep Roman Catholic tradition, plus additional fisherfolk roots from Ireland, the West Country,, Channel Islands. McCord Stewart Museum , access number VIEW-4524. To experience the natural and maritime environment of Portugal Cove, click on the static archival image above. You will be taken to a Google 3-D sphere, and you will be able to explore, broadly. The modern 3-D sphere is a starting point very close to where the 1908 photograph was made.
