Current 3D Sphere (2021-2022): Rebuilding, Refacing, and Maintenance of Parts of the Iconic Tagus River Frontage (Praça do Comércio) (2021-2022)
We honour the innumerable individual contributors of 3D spheres to the Google and other platforms. Our principled rejection of Google in its 'political' and starkly ideologically partisan or Alphabet-soup / surveillance 'organization' role does not extend to individuals. Those individuals, daily and monthly and every single year, offer unique material that sometimes is gathered in precarious, and even dangerous conditions. By now, such visual testimonies document crucial 'before' and 'after' states of countless historic, archaeological, and natural sites and areas that are of fundamental conceptual importance. The 3D spheres are a living record for the Human species. For the most part, such contributions go unacknowledged. They are visible but silent, typically decontextualized. Just a map-plus-advertising-'accessory'-click in the panoply of a gigantic mega-coporation. Most people viewing the material every single day do not even remotely notice, or think and consider. We DO notice, and we are truly grateful -- to the individuals.
